Praying Through the Inborn Problem of Sin

Living like our Savior in a world that is tarnished by sin is not easy.

Ever since the day that we were born, we have been sinners, and we will never cease to sin until the day that we die. Sin is something that it is hard for some people to recognize and admit. And we all have secret sins  that we would prefer no one knew about. Sometimes our sin may not be a bad deed, but it may be neglecting something that we know we should do (James 4:17). But in order to become more like Christ and to grow in our relationship with Him, we have to address the problem of sin. We have to pray about sin on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis. It’s important to remember that Jesus knows our hearts, and that we can come to Him in prayer even about our deepest, darkest secrets.

Here are some prayer prompts that I have put together to encourage us as we confess and forsake our sins and find mercy (Proverbs 28:13):

Prayer Prompts for Overcoming Sin

As you pray through the points, remember to humble yourself and to come before the throne of the King of Kings in a broken spirit. Be ready to give yourself to the Lord again. Pray and feel the power of forgiveness as you “cast your cares upon the LORD” (Psalm 55:22).

What are some Bible verses that encourage you to avoid sin?
