Prayer is something that is sometimes hard to understand. Why do we pray? The Bible answers that question.
It connects us to our Creator.
“The Lord has heard my supplication, the Lord receives my prayer.” (Psalm 6:9)
It’s a way to love one another.
“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” (Matthew 5:44)
“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
It gives us courage and faith.
“Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,” (Luke 18:1)
It keeps our souls from harm.
“Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41)
It works in ways we cannot see.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)
It makes miracles happen.
“This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14)
Yeshua (Jesus) showed us how to pray.
“But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.” (Luke 5:16)
“Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’ ” (Matthew 6:9-13)
I hope these verses encourage you to today.
Whatever you’re holding inside your heart, pour it out before Him. He’s waiting to hear your voice, to bring you peace when you surrender, and to refresh your thirsty soul with His Spirit.

I love these verses. So often we think only that prayer is about getting what we want, but i’ve learned like you have, that petitioning God for our needs should only be a tiny portion of our time spent with the Lord. Thanks for the scriptures!
